Ditch your New Year's resolutions
Recently, I participated in a meeting where individuals were asked about their New Year's resolutions and whether they had managed to stick to them. It was striking to see how many people had never truly stuck to a resolution. Even those who had been successful in the past were suggesting smaller, more achievable changes for the new year.
The reality is that we all go through ebbs and flows throughout the year. We encounter challenges and triumphs, and our goals and aspirations can shift as a result. Rather than setting resolutions that often fail to withstand the test of time, let's instead think more sustainably.
Too often, resolutions are based on feelings of guilt or remorse for things we haven't done in the past. Goals like losing weight or quitting smoking are often presented in black and white terms. Instead, let's reflect on how we can continue to grow and develop as individuals, and consider how to approach that growth in a sustainable way.
Setting realistic goals and intentions, and being honest about our strengths and weaknesses, can help us focus our efforts in areas that will truly nourish and sustain us. Remember, there's a lot of grey area to explore in this process. And if none of this resonates with you, that's perfectly okay too. It can be difficult to make significant changes during the winter months.
So this new year let's ditch the conventional resolution and focus on sustainable growth, it's a more human (and realistic!) way to approach goal setting.
