Website idea: connecting hobbyist musicians

With the turn of the new year, I reflected and realised that I am getting further away from getting in touch with my musical sensibilities.

I used to play more music and as a result I also used to enjoy music more too.

In recent years, I've found it difficult to keep up the regimen of practice. The times I've been most motivated to play are when I've been playing with or for people.

So, I figured that it shouldn't be too hard to find other musical hobbyists online and play with them - like finding a tennis partner in your local area.

I was wrong. Aside from trawling forums and reddit, it is actually surprisingly difficult to find other hobbyist musicians as there are very few functional platforms that offer this (Jamseek exists but only works on Android and doesn't have a web browser component). There are a plethora of platforms for finding gigs as a musician or to connect with other professional musicians but all of that is far to intimidating for the hobbyist and this is coming from someone who has played instruments for over 20 years!

So here's some thoughts on what this magical service might need to include:

• A way to list what you want to play (rock) and how you want to collaborate (music production, jamming in person, jamming online)
• A way to respond to a listing
• A way to filter and search through listings
• A way to keep listing from becoming outdated or inactive
• A way to show your musical experience / level

In the meantime, until this service exists, trawling it is.
